Honing helps maintain a sharp cutting edge between professional sharpenings. It can remove burrs caused by normal use and restore the blade’s cutting performance. Before honing, check that scraping problems are caused by the blade rather than uneven ice.
What is included in the Ice King Hone Kit?
The Ice King Hone Kit includes a honing stone, safety glove, Ice King Honing Solution, microfiber cleaning cloth, scrub brush, permanent marker and storage box.
What is the difference between the hone kit and an individual honing stone?
The hone kit provides a honing stone together with supplies for preparation, cleaning and storage. An individual stone is an option for customers who already have those supplies. Ice King also offers the honing solution and storage box separately.
Does honing replace professional blade sharpening?
No. Honing maintains the cutting edge between professional sharpenings. As the edge becomes thicker through repeated honing, it will eventually need precision reconditioning by Ice King. The blade-maintenance manual recommends professional reconditioning typically at least twice per season.
